چکیده

An immunocompetent 28-year-old male aquarium store employee presented with 1 month of intermittent epistaxis. A bleeding granulomatous lesion was identified over the right nasal septum ( Figure 1 ). Histopathology from the incisional biopsy revealed granulomatous inflammation with the presence of acid-fast bacilli ( Figure 2 ). Culture of the homogenized specimen on Middlebrook 7H11 agar after 14 days displayed white clones of non-tuberculous Mycobacterium (NTM) that turned brilliant yellow upon light exposure ( Figure 3 ). Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification of the 65-kDa heat shock protein gene with restriction enzyme analysis using Bst E II and Hae III confirmed the diagnosis of Mycobacterium marinum infection. The lesion regressed completely with 3 months of doxycycline treatment. Fish tank granuloma is a rare granulomatous skin infection caused by Mycobacterium marinum , an opportunistic NTM, commonly found in aquatic environments. 1 Extremities are most frequently affected; nasal cavity infection is seldom

گزارش یک مورد Fish tank granuloma

Fish tank or swimming granuloma caused by Mycobacterium marinum is an opportunist pathogen commonly found in aquatic environments. We present a 16 year-old boy with frequent exposure to aquarium water who had several nodules (sprotrichoid forms) on his right hand. Pervious studies showed that fish tank granuloma is a rare skin infection (0.27 per 100,000 population in one year). However, t...

Epistaxis Related to Internal Carotid Artery Cavernous Sinus Aneurysm

Epistaxis is simply known as nose bleeding, presented as hemorrhage from the nasal cavity which is noticed when blood flows out through nostrils. We describe an uncommon cause of epistaxis in ...

Pediatric Nasal Lobular Capillary Hemangioma

Background. LCH is a benign vascular growth of the skin and mucous membranes commonly affecting the head and neck. Since it was first described in the nineteenth century, this entity has been variously known as "human botryomycosis" and "pyogenic granuloma." The shifting nomenclature reflects an evolving understanding of the underlying pathogenesis. We review the histopathology of and current e...

Leech in the Nose - an unusual cause of epistaxis.

Leech is an uncommon nasal foreign body, which can cause epistaxis. It is an aquatic segmental worm living in fresh water most commonly in tropical areas. Once it is attached in the nose, it will secrete an anticoagulant enzyme named hirudin, and that will result in continuous bleeding more than from a normal wound even after it is removed. We present a case of a live leech in the nose that cau...

ANCA-negative limited Wegener's granulomatosis.

A 26-year-old man presented with epistaxis, nasal obstruction and a subcutaneous swelling over the left malar region with radiological evidence of a mass in the right nasal cavity. Histology of the lesions showed necrotizing granuloma with evidence of vasculitis. There was no other systemic involvement and the patient was ANCA-negative. Excellent response to systemic steroid and cyclophosphamid...
